We are excited to introduce Aralia Data Planet to you, which will bring you a whole new experience and sensation of data operation, allowing us to step into a new world of data that is fair, truthful, lively, ubiquitous, and synergistic. Each data planet will have an owner who can upload their own files for others to use. Alternatively, you can use our cloud services, where Open Data from Taiwan and Singapore is already prepared for you to explore.

New Features

• Installation

  • Standalone Version: You can install Data Planet in an Ubuntu 18 or above, or CentOS 7 or above environment using Docker container.
  • Cloud Version: In this version, only data user permissions are provided for use. You can operate data already inside the data planet on the cloud service.

• Data Management

  • Dataset Creation and Upload: Owner can create datasets on the data planet by uploading CSV files, and they can continue to upload new data to the dataset as the original data increases, as well as delete them.
  • Uploaded File Management: Owner can view records of uploaded files for a single dataset and delete files.
  • Dataset Editing: Owner can edit dataset descriptions, variable descriptions, and variable types. Variable types include numeric (integer, decimal), Nominal, Ordinal, text, long text, date, date-time, and geometry (point, line, polygon).
  • Dataset Category Management: To facilitate users in finding datasets, Owner can categorize datasets appropriately, currently limited to two-level Category (major category, minor category).
  • Association Management: Owner can establish many-to-one associations between datasets, and through establishing associations, they can expand variables of the main dataset to provide data users with more variable exploration.
  • Permission Management: Owner can set permissions for datasets, including Private (only the owner can use), Limited (logged-in users can use), and Public (non-logged-in users can use).

• Data Profile

  • Preview: Users can find data prepared by Owner on the main page of the data planet and preview the data.
  • Initial Analysis: Data planets will calculate descriptive statistics for each variable in each dataset and visualize present the data distribution of each variable.

• Data Exploration

  • Multidimensional Exploration: Multidimensional exploration allows for in-depth exploration of relationships between information in a single dataset through charts. Multidimensional exploration is mainly divided into three parts:
    • Unfold: Place variables on the X-axis, up to three variables can be unfold.
    • Observe: Place variables on the Y-axis, representing the calculation of values, with up to two variables at a time.
    • Filter: Exclude values that are not of interest based on variable content.
  • Data Landmarks: You can save or share the results and conditions of data exploration with other users for future tracking and comparison. You can also view data landmarks shared by others in data landmarks.

• Planet Management

  • User Management: Owners can manage all users registered on the planet as Co-Owners or Members and deactivate or activate users.
  • Basic Planet Settings: Owners can adjust the initial settings when installing the data planet, including planet name, planet theme, planet description, and default language.
  • SMTP Settings: Owners can modify SMTP settings for the planet. SMTP will be used for account verification.

• System Functions

  • Registration and Login: Data planet has a self-contained registration and authentication mechanism. Users can register and log in to the planet using their email. In addition, the cloud version provides Keycloak SSO authentication mechanism.
  • Main Page: You can search for and browse datasets you have permission to access on the main page, and enter the data profile of each dataset from here. You can also use the star function to add frequently used datasets to My Favorites for quick access in the future.
  • Notification Center: Notifications will be displayed in the notification center when datasets are updated, data profiles are updated, or permission settings are adjusted.
